Charles Dickens, born February 7, 1812 in Portsmouth, England, was a journalist as well as a writer. His novels, such as Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Nicholas Nickelby and other famous novels showed the poor conditions in which children were working in, having worked in a factory as a child himself. He also well known for writing A Tale of Two Cities, a dramatic story of life during the French Revolution. He died of a stroke on June 9, 1870.
